The single fan in the 3.6V6 Taurus pulls about 33 amps when running and 100+ amps on start up. I'm not sure what the dual speed fan flows, I found one link which claims 2500/4500 but I thin kthat's high. I'm guessing it's probably more like 3900-ish which is still awesome. Guy over on Diesel Bomers did the swap to a Taurus fan http://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-rotar ... te-up.html and he mentioned the best guess for folk was about 2mpg increase/10-15 hp.

Cool, it's nice to have some numbers to base this stuff off of. I'm going to get two 70amp relays and run them off of it, and I'll probably get a fan controller that was linked a few pages back to control them. I hate to do it, but this is one area where I just don't need my typical ball of wires to be wadded up at.

I will say that with it just sitting around idling, one fan seems to be able to keep it cool. I still don't have the gaps filled between the shroud and core, and it didn't get above 60 here today, but if I left the truck idling it would eventually drop the temp down to the first bar. I wouldn't trust it to keep it cool while pulling a trailer or idling in 100*+ weather yet, though.

I would trust both of them to handle a 100*+ idle condition, I tested them out when it was in the high 70*'s here and it dropped the temp like a rocket while it was idling.

I'm going to go the single fan (two stage) route within the next month. I prolly won't dyno before & after the fan swap, but I'll get temps & hand calculated mpg for comparison sake. BTW, it's already hitting 85-90 here during the day...I think it was 87 yesterday so by the time I get to it we should be running 90+ and my commute is full of stop/go in the afternoons. I hope it'll be a good indicator of effectiveness.

I figure with a tight seal and good shrouding it shouldn't have a problem. Mine are just hanging with a 1/2"+ of gap between them and the core.

So, one fan starting on high has a 70 amp draw? I wonder why my 40 amp relay melted with 2 on it?

Thanks for the link, Ellis. I love having actual numbers to guess off of.

The saga continues on my blind tuning of my twins.

I set up my electronic wastegate controller, which is just an adjustable pressure switch and a 12v spool valve hooked to the external 'gate, and set it to 30psi. Took it out, warmed it up, and floored it. Boost stopped directly at 30 psi and didn't go an ounce higher.

Huh.

So it seems as though there may actually be something wrong with my primary. I'll get around to pulling it off and checking it out one of these days. Maybe.

Well, since I'm trying to avoid doing any actual work while I'm at work, I ran out and pulled my intake tube and filter off. S400 is spinning free. Hmmmm, the plot thickens...

I'll drive it home with no filter and see what changes. If nothing else maybe a rock will get into the big turbo and I can take all this crap off.

Have you put a boost gauge in the between stage pipe? You need to know the primary boost...

Really simple. Go get a oil pressure gauge and use it as the overall boost gauge.

Never!!! I tune my trucks like I pick my girlfriends. Blindly. :)
If this thing keeps whooping me like it is I may break down and gauge it, but until I lose my interest it's not happening.

I drove it home with no filter on it. Boost stopped directly at 30psi, got there a bit faster, but still stopped. I will say this though, that S400 is still spooling. It was screaming it's heart out with no filter. You could hear the S300 as well, so I don't think there's any internal problems. It's either a horrific boost leak between them or the leak at the S300 V-band is worse than I think it is.

Or there is actually a shop rag in the S400 exhaust housing.

I'll fix the hotpipe sometime next week and see if that helps anything.

I didn't realize there was that much of a truck turnout there. At Kanaugha it was just Me and Tyler. There was one other pickup, but it was one of those Rumble Bee 1500 Dodges. How many of them are sticks? They're the only ones I wanna race. ;)

The 2 white duallys on the end. There will be another one there next friday that should spank all of us is what I'm hearing.

Also they are supposably planning a truck only event too. We must have inspired them lol. And to think, me n the white 24v srw started it all :D

Well, the oil leaks have pretty much stopped. It must have been mostly the drain and vacuum pumps doing it all. I can run it there with the turbo problems, I don't care. I do kinda need to figure out the hotpipe though, it's gonna get rough on my poor air filter soon if I don't.
